Welcome to Log Dog Timberworks!
Looking to add a hand-cut and fitted timber frame centerpiece to your outdoor space?
Our products are built with the same joinery techniques that have been used for thousands of years! Most commercially-available options are designed to look like a traditional timber-framed structure, but are held together with bolts and screws. Ours are built with mortise-and-tenon joinery, and held together with draw-bored pins for an exceptionally tight, durable fit!
Looking to make your backyard the kind of place people don't want to leave? We build timber frame structures out of solid 7×7 or 8×8 Douglas Fir timbers, using the same mortise-and-tenon joinery that’s been holding things together for thousands of years — with drawbored oak pegs instead of bolts and screws.
You can buy a kit from a big box store, sure. But those are bolted together, built from smaller timbers, or use built-up posts designed to fake the look of solid wood. There’s just no comparison when you’re standing next to the real thing.
We’ve got several designs ready to go, or we can tweak one to fit your space and style. Want something totally custom? We can design it from scratch. And for most Denver suburbs, structures under 200 sq. ft. (roughly 14×14) don’t even need a permit — but if yours does, we’ll handle it.
Not every project needs to be a full pergola — and honestly, a beautifully built arbor or garden arch can be just as much of a showstopper. We build these out of cedar or Douglas Fir, with the same mortise-and-tenon joinery and drawbored oak pegs we use on everything else. No shortcuts just because it’s smaller.
Built-in seating, a trellis for climbing plants, a statement entrance to your garden path — we can work with whatever you’re envisioning. We also build wedding arches, timber gates, and upscale planter boxes. If you can picture it, we can probably build it!
There’s something about a hand-hewn beam that a milled board just can’t touch. We turn logs into beams the old-fashioned way — broadaxe in hand — and every one comes out a little different. That’s kind of the point.
We usually have a few in stock. Don’t see the size or species you’re after? We can source a log and make it happen. Got trees, logs, or old timber sitting around that you’d like to turn into something worth keeping? Bring it to us — we love that kind of project!
At Log Dog Timberworks, we'll work with you to craft the outdoor timber frame of your dreams, whether you want it to be a cozy retreat or a party hotspot.
We're Chad and Miles, two guys who've been chums since the days of Trapper Keepers and Tamagotchis. After years of honing our carpentry skills, we decided to team up and share our passion for timberframing with the world.
So, let us help you design and build a timber frame for your outdoor space, and make your backyard the envy of the neighborhood!
